It took me about two weeks to put it together - It was an outside of work project, at least until I released it - not it is official, but most of the work I do on it is at night.

It is a bit - and that's the point! :)
I started this in part because I found a community built around Jane on Care2 with 50,000 members! the community is closed now it was built around a promotion that Care2 was doing - but nonetheless I thought if Care2 can build a group like that we should be able to do it too, and imagine what a community like that could do together!

Hi Zac! I am really glad you have you on board. Welcome, make yourself comfortable. We are a new network, and we are looking to spread the word - so we are encouraging folks to invite friends that they think would appreciate what we are doing. Again, welcome!

Profile Information

About Me:
My name is Zac Sheffer. I am a student at High Tech High, in Point Loma. I plan on attending Northeastern University for Mechanical Engineering in the future. I am a current member of my school's Roots & Shoots program. We have done some awesome projects relating to the bushmeat trade and increasing environmental knowledge. Our group has written several books, which are amazing on San Diego Bay and conservation. Over the summer we plan on traveling to Tanzania to look at some bushmeat colleges and get even more hands on experience. (For the trip I will be the videographer, so I get to film everything and make it look nice when we get back.)

In my free time I enjoy:
- Running (Spanish Landing is a nice run)
- Reading (Tao Te Ching and Life of Pi - good reads)
- Playing Wii (Sold xbox and bought Brawl, too much fun)
- Watching the Office (Guilty pleasure, need to watch while eating Sour Patch)

If you have any questions for me on the R&S program at HTH, or anything you think I can answer please leave me a comment.

Love this new site, great idea. :D

What we have done at HTH

We have done a few things at HTH regarding the environment and R&S. Note: These are just quick blurbs, comment if you want more info.

1. Jane Goodall Intro
Jane Goodall came to San Diego the beginning of April 2008 and was speaking at a few venues. Our entire club went to one of her speeches. We were also asked to make an introduction video for her. So, before she spoke it explained R&S, Jane, and some of the clubs around San Diego. It was pretty cool. I will put it on this site soon. Jane did another speech at USD a few days later and we had a student actually introduce her.

2. African Bushmeat Expedition
This summer 8 students are 4 adults will be traveling to Tanzania for 2.5 weeks. It is going to be pretty sweet. We are going to talk to some R&S groups in Tanzania, visit Mweka College and talk to them about bushmenat, go on a Safari, hang with the Masai, and basically have a good time. Should be exciting.

3. BIO 2008
BIO 2008 is like the largest Biology conference in the world. At HTH Dr.Vavra, who does Biotechnology, gets a lot of his resources from a bio company called Invitrogen. Well, they have a booth at this enormous conference and they have asked us to fill 25% of it. So, we are getting a virtual classroom and some flash animations prepared so we can talk to visitors about DNA Barcoding that we have done in class.
