About Me:
We are a grassroots organization dedicated to providing lifelong care to captive monkeys from research, entertainment, or the pet trade. The sanctuary is not only a caretaker of these special animals; New England Primate Sanctuary also educates the public about the care and protection of all animals. Conservation and habitat protection are strongly emphasized in our outreach and educational programs. At New England Primate Sanctuary, we are dedicated to education, the care and protection of animals, habitat conservation, and ecological balance. We're saving animals today for our children's tomorrow.

It can be incredibly powerful when your vote has local impact. Chase is giving away $5 million to various charities and needs you to help pick which ones. Simply vote for New England Primate Sanctuary and then get your friends and others online to do the same. http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/local-beat/Nash-Seeks-to-Sue-State-of-Connecticut--69185212.html

This link leads to an article about the victim of a 2008 attack from a pet chimpanzee who lived in Connecticut. She is suing the state for a large sum of money, claiming that they knew the chimpanzee was a safety threat but overlooked his presence. Although this was a tragic and unforunate event, it could have been avoided. This is why non-human primates should not be kept as pets. Here's hoping that this brings about legal changes that prohibit the keeping of primates as pets!

A few things to share:
1. We almost got rained out on Saturday at the Norman Bird Sanctuary's Harvest Fair, but met some great people and we were able to spread the word about us! Luckily, Sunday was better and was a busier day at the fair. Thank you to our volunteers Veronica, Erin, and Cynthia for making it happen!

The link above is from a story on ABC News. There's a new show on TLC about people who keep monkeys as pets, raising them basically as surrogate children. We are so saddened to see these wonderful primates living such unnatural lives in homes with humans, and we are fully aware that they will end up needing sanctuary when they grow up. Hopefully, there are no tragic violent stories anywhere close to what happened this past year in Stamford, CT when a pet chimpanzee mauled a friend of his owner's. We are spreading the word about this ridiculous TLC show in the hopes that media exposure will help educate people about the reality behind these stories. Primates should not be kept as pets, period. For more information on why primates don't make good pets, please see the FAQ section of our website, at www.neprimatesanctuary.org.

We're upset and disappointed that TLC has decided to air a new show called "My Monkey Baby" that documents real households that keep primates as pets.

Please join us in boycotting this show that will glorify this unhealthy, unethical, and dangerous trend.

For more information on exactly why primates do not make good pets, please see our website's FAQ section.

After a campaign that lasted for six years (2003-2009) the Nepal government has decided to definitely halt the breeding of monkeys for biomedical research in the USA. It shows that it pays to have patience and that the good forces sometimes do win in the end!
