Wow Milou, you have such an amazing life. I too am deeply inspired by Dr. Jane Goodall. She is my strength and my hero as well. I too want to work in the field of Conservation Biology and I also want to study Mammalian Ethology (my focus mainly on elephants). Lots of schooling and work but it is so worth it.
You are so lucky to have gone off to Tanzania. My dream is to someday go to Africa. I don't know what it is, but deep inside I feel like Africa is where I belong. Anyways thanks for sharing your story with us and I wish you the best of luck with your doctorate work. Keep in touch.

Goodmorning Milou

Profile Information

About Me:
I'm an International Natural Resource Management master student at the University of Queensland, Australia. My home country is The Netherlands. I'm specializing in Conservation Biology and environmental problem solving.
Since I was a little bab, my Mum used to show me these documentaries of Jane Goodall, the most fascinating thing I had ever seen in my little life. This thrive brought me to a university in the Netherlands to study animal science, however the Netherlands doesn’t know a lot about the real conservation biology, the threats that are here today, in Africa , South-America actually globally. During this study I went to Tanzania for 4 months and fell in love with this country, it is a feeling you can’t describe, it’s like your blood increases temperature and your heart beat decreases, everything is so peaceful. Two years later I was part of a group who organised a student exchange program with students from the University in Mombasa, Kenya.
When I finished my Bachelor degree in the Netherlands I worked for two years as a process advisor, very interesting but I’m not a person that sits behind a desk 40 hours a week; I wanted more. I decided to make myself special, special enough to make a difference; in the Netherlands at least. After a long process of 9 months I got enrolled at the University of Queensland, 3 weeks after telling my friends and family about my plans I was off to Australia. Now almost 2 years later I’ve almost finished my Masters in Natural resource management, I’ve learned a lot of Protected area management, Environmental payments services, community based conservation, conservation biology etc etc.
But I’m still eager to learn more, that’s why I’m trying to get a PhD in Australia.

It’s strange that one person can change the attitude of the world and makes people more alert of the threats and the differences they can make. Jane Goodall is that person, she had the strength and the will to make that change, she went to Africa as a young girl and now look at the impact she made to the world. I have deep respect for her and I see her as my big example! I would like to finish with my favourite quote: Nothing is impossible for those who really want to!
