Welcome to the JGI Community for social change - My name is Bryce, I am the Webmaster and Online Community Director at the Jane Goodall Institute. I am trying to stop by and welcome all of the new members personally and let you know that if you have any issues or questions to please feel free to send me a message. It is really great to have folks from sanctuaries join us - and there are quite a few members now who are either full time sanctuary employees or volunteers. Again, thanks for joining!
It is pretty shocking that they still do medical research on chimps. But then there are many awful things happening to animals.
Your experience with chickens sounds really interesting. It's so hard to see chickens as something sentient when they're mass produced. Forcing chickens into these terrible conditions where they can't lead natural lives almost propagates the stereotype that they're really dumb. Also most people probably believe that the reason we can treat them that way is because they are dumb.
After several years of trying to figure out what I'd like to do I've finally realized that I'd like to work with or for animals.
Thanks,
Tracy
Thanks for the greeting. Because of my work in mental health advocacy in the diverse communities of this county (San Mateo, CA), I'm very enthusiastic about social justice and public outreach/engagement.
I look forward to learning more about the work of this Institute.

Do they still do biomedical research on chimpanzees? I thought it was illegal!
Sounds like you're doing great work. Did you have to study something in particular to follow this career?
I love your family. Do you rescue chickens too?
Nice meeting you :)
