Hi Cindy! Thanks for your response! I am living here in Holland because my husband got a job here. We like it a lot here and are having a great time! I am becoming involved in the Roots and Shoots program here. I am starting one myself at my daughters school and hopefully I can help start some others here as well.

That must have been a nice holiday in New Zealand! The possums there are the Common Bushtail Opossums which are related to the Virginia Opossums in the USA but are not the same opossum. The Common Bushtail is an invasive species in New Zealand and they number more than 60 million! (I just looked this up because I was curious) I can't imagine how much trouble they are causing to that country! It's not their fault that they are not supposed to be there but I'm sure it's a big problem for the New Zealand ecosystem.

The opossums in the US are true natives yet so misunderstood. They are so impotant to the ecosystem and most people believe them to be pests! They are basically disease free but most people believe they are the opposite. Same with the Turkey Vulture. They are ugly as can be but just as important.

I found it so rewarding to help with educating people that these animals are worth protecting and respecting. I have seen with my own eyes how people can completely change their mind about certain animals simply because I told them just a few simple facts. What a wonderful opportunity I had when I volunteered for those places! I think you know what I mean! Maybe someday, I can come and visit your bird sanctuary.
Say hi to those babies (birds) for me and keep up the wonderful work your doing! Hope to meet you someday.

Hi Cindy! I like your pictures! I just moved here to the Netherlands and I love being surrounded by farm animals! Especially the sheep. I think they are so cute and full of personality! I hope to have a few chickens too someday, I know my kids would love them. What bird sanctuary do you work at? I used to work at a bird sanctuary in the States. I loved working with the owls and the hawks. My favorite bird is the one I use for my picture. Her name is Turk and she loves to play with tennis balls. I think she is beautiful both on the inside and the outside but most people don't appreciate her species like I do. It's a shame. What type of birds do you work with?

Hoi Cindy,

Ik ken het programma van Yves Rocher. Ze sturen eens per jaar een brief hierover. Helaas binnen onze organisatie nog geen bruikbare kandidaten :-(

Leuk je hier op deze community te treffen !!

groetjes,

Diederik

About Me:
Hello,
It's nice to meet people on this site with similar interests!
I am living in Soest a village in the Prvovince Utrecht in Holland. I am living in a little farm with my two pigs Herman and Flip in the garden. Also one chicken lives her twe friends died the last couple of months and unfortunately she doesn't tolerate the company of a new chicken so I have to keep her alone untill she dies! In the house lives my cat Mickey. And in the garden I have borrowed 4 sheeps to mow the grass!
By my parents lives my old big dog Booker he is a cross between a bouvier and a St. Bernarddog. He is 13 now and his knees don't work so good any more.
I wasn't good enough at school to become a vet doctor so I have always had administrative jobs, a little bit boring! But when I am free I
take care of the animals and I also work as a volunteer by the bird sanctuary! I am for a couple of years member of the Jane Goodall institute. Her work is so fantastic and I also admire her energy to travel around the world almost the whole year to tell her important message and that on her age!! Last year I had the honor to meet her by a reading in Breda! She has hope for the future and I alway think of these words as I go by bike to my work or buy articles that are not bad for the nature etc. etc.
