Hi Theo, Jane is coming here in May - we are so psyched!! My favorite thing is talking about Roots & Shoots too. I don't have my own group right now, because we're so busy in the office, but I want to do it again in the future, maybe with really cute little kids. I'll say hi to everyone in Orlando for you!!

Hi Christine! How's everything going in New England?? Jane was at UC Davis last night so I drove up and staffed at the event-- it was so fun to be able to talk for hours and hours...and hours... about Roots & Shoots to the hundreds of excited people! (I don't often get the chance...) Pretty sure I could go on forever if they let me.... :) We signed up 10 new groups!
Have fun in Orlando! Unfortunately I won't be there :( but I putting on some great events for Earth Day/week here at Stanford so I'll be with you guys in spirit.... say hi to everyone for me!

Okay, Bryce, here's a couple of "problems" for the group - pne of the challenges we face in Arlington Mass. Roots & Shoots groups is making the local-global connection for younger elementary kids. They do like the little nature activities we do, and they loved having our visitors from Nepal and Tanzania yesterday.

Clearly the resources of families like our members' are light years away from what groups deal with in Nepal & Tanzania Yet, people here are numb from the constant fundraisers, whether it's for books for their local school or for tents for earthquake refugees in Pakistan. Last year we raised a little money for Panda Miti, but not much, even though we connected it to local tree-planting (sold ArborDay seedlings for $15, with extra after seedling purchase for Panda Miti). People liked the idea, but there was no groundswell to carry it forward.

Any ideas from the group on how to structure activities or a long-term plan that keeps members engaged, connected with other groups, and feeling like they are making a difference? Maybe I am expecting too much, too soon?

Hi Christine! glad you joined us. If you need any help with anything please feel free to contact me. Also i am encouraging everyone to join the group; new ideas and solving problems is what the group is all about. The group is built to put forward problems (challenges) for the community or individuals to solve. Some of these challenges will be community challenges to action and idea generation like the current challenge, but hopefully if I can find sponsors some challenges will be problem solving contests. Anyway I encourage you to get involved with the group, consider problems you think would engage the community and encourage others to join. And thanks again for joining!
