Profile Information

About Me:
I'm from Asheville, North Carolina and am currently a first-year student at UNC-Chapel Hill. Ever since I can remember I have been passionate about caring for the world and its wildlife. When I was twelve years old, I began rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife and volunteering with a local rehabilitation center called Wild for Life.

When I was fifteen years old, I had the opportunity to meet my childhood hero, Dr. Jane Goodall. After hearing her speak about her program for empowering youth called Roots & Shoots, I founded a Roots & Shoots group at my high school. Our largest project was to fund and build a pre-release flight cage for injured birds of prey in western North Carolina. I continued to become more involved in the Jane Goodall Institute through the Roots & Shoots Tchimpounga Youth Campaign. Soon after, I was offered the opportunity to take a gap year between high school and college to work as the Jane Goodall Institute's first Youth Leadership Fellow. I’m now serving on the Board of Directors for the Jane Goodall Institute-USA.

I am also currently helping to launch a new magazine called Nature's Best Photography for Kids (www.naturesbestforkids.com), which seeks to connect and inspire students worldwide to explore, embrace and experience the natural world through the enjoyment of photography. Nature and wildlife photography is one of my favorite hobbies and I have had the opportunity to experience some of the world's most amazing places, people and wildlife. From Antarctica to Tanzania, it is my greatest hope that my images of wildlife in their natural habitats will serve as a "visual voice" that will inspire people to take action.

Take care and I look forward to sharing ideas as to how we can all take action for people, animals and the environment.
