Food that Promotes Health and Environmental Protection

Sustainable cuisine is the practice of using products that are grown, harvested, processed, packaged and distributed with the least amount of environmental impact.

In our current global food system it has become difficult to know where our food products originate. With more food-based scares-- E-coli in spinach, tainted seafood from China, mad-cow, etc - many people are more concerned about the safety of our food system. This has driven more interest in local and organic foods.

What are your thoughts? Are you making sustainable foods choices? Are you shopping at different stores? Have you considered vegetarianism?

My aunt told me she stopped buying organic because it took up too much space in the agribusiness and therefore was not a good idea...any thoughts? I still buy organic when I can and have recently started to purchase only from local produce markets. How can I be sure I am buying eco-friendly?
